An extension of Bairro Alto district and in the neighborhood of Campo de Ourique is the district of Principe Real. The name means the Royal Prince. It is filled with trendy restaurants, grand mansions, antique shops, gardens and kiosks
A visit here includes the intriguing Pavilhão Chinês, which makes you feel like you are walking in a museum, not a bar which it is. The walls have shelves and cabinets with souvenirs and knick-knack spanning more than 300 years. The drinks also are great. During the day you can rest under the Jardim do Príncipe Real garden. It has a large cedar tree, over 150 years in age, that fans into a circular shade. There are two kiosks and a café to serve people in the garden. Below the Jardim do Príncipe Real is the underground Patriarchal Reservoir which was the second water tank to be built in the city. Visitors see the hidden treasures here. You can also go shopping at the Embaixada, a luxurious shopping gallery for traditional Portuguese designs and fashion. Its Moorish architectural style also attracts visitors. Also visit the Natural history museum and the botanical gardens. Transport to Campo de Ourique is by using trams and metro. Its closeness to Baixa and Campo de Ourique makes it walking distance from these districts.
Many people who live in the neighborhood do frequent exercise. This is evident by the many gyms near Principe Real. Some cater specifically for women for slimming, others are for yoga. For a complete gym with varying equipments and machines for weight lifting and cardio workouts, one of the best gyms is the Fitness Hut Santos.
