The Praça do Comércio is one of the biggest plazas in Lisbon and one of the biggest in Europe. Opening up on Tejo Estuary, it is surrounded on three sides by 18th-century Pombaline architecture with the focal point being the Arco da Rua Augusta, crowned with
historical figures like Vasco da Gama. It was here that the financing and planning of sea-voyages and sea trades were done.
For a visit to The Praça do Comércio, you see the statue of King Jose I riding his horse. There is the impressive Arco da Rua Augusta with three statues at the top of the tower. At its southern side is the Cais das Colunas stairs, made of marble that leads down to the water edges. The Lisbon Story center is also worth a visit. You get to learn about Lisbon’s history from the new world discoveries, the 1775 earthquake, the reconstruction that followed, and the 1974 revolution.
Praça do Comércio is a transport hub with the metro connection to the ferry terminal. There is also the tram, which departs to the Belem district. There are commuter ferries giving visitors a view of the city from the waters.
There are a few gyms near Praça do Comércio mostly dispersed and most with good facilities in weights, and cardio. TrainAway has information about gyms and what they offer including passes.
