Parque Eduardo VII (Eduardo VII Park) is the largest park in Lisbon, occupying an area of 26 hectares. The park is named after King Edward VII who visited Portugal in 1903. It stretches from Marquês de Pombal Square to a belvedere at the top. At the top, a viewing platform offers great views over the River Tejo, Praça Marquês do Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade. The manicured space has mosaic patterned hedges, a good place for picnics and strolling.
Entering the park at Marquês de Pombal Square has the statue of Marquês de Pombal and when inside you can see the monument of the 25th April revolution. There are also three greenhouses to visit – the estufa fria (the cool greenhouse), estufa quente (the hot greenhouse) and the estufa doce (the sweet greenhouse) filled with an endless variety of cacti, palms, tropical plants, and ponds. Opposite the estufas sits an ornately tiled sports pavilion dedicated to Carlos Lopes, the Portuguese athlete who won Portugal’s first-ever athletics gold medal in the marathon at the Los Angeles Olympic games. Use the Lisbon metro to visit Parque Eduardo VII. Public buses and taxis are also available to the Marques de Pombal stop.
Most of the gyms near Parque Eduardo VII are located near the old city center. Gyms nearby are few but of excellent quality though with membership plans. One gym to check out is the Fitness Hut Picoas, where you’ll be able to use a TrainAway gym day pass. The gym is a walking distance not only from the park but to many hotels nearby.
