Baixa is the heart of Lisbon. It is characterized by imposing buildings, world-class museums and ruins, the world’s oldest bookstore and many high-end fashion boutiques and restaurants.
The very first place any tourist in Lisbon visits is the Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) on the banks of Tagus river. This is the commercial center of Lisbon. Take a photo by the statue of King Joseph I. View the Pombaline architecture of the buildings. Enjoy a drink or a meal at one of the restaurants within. After a visit to the square, you can take an elevator ride on the Elevador de Santa Justa, a lift constructed in the industrial era using cast-iron, with a beautiful viewpoint. Later spend an hour or two in the world’s oldest bookshop, which started operating in 1732. Don’t forget to have a view of Arco da Rua Augusta.
Baixa is served by the Lisbon airport. Use the metro network from the airport to Baixa as it is cheaper. If carrying luggage use the Aerobus bus service which is direct to your destination place. There are also taxis though expensive. There is a 24-hour public transport ticket which includes all metro, trams, and buses, good for visiting various places.
The gyms in the Baixa neighborhood are many but very diverse in equipment and membership. Some are more expensive than others. Their membership plans also differ with monthly, weekly and day passes depending on the gym. A search using TrainAway App gives any visitor in Baixa the best gyms with quality machines and equipment. One gym that stands out is the Fitness Hut Santos. It offers not only modern machines but also a clean environment and it is very spacious, all at affordable prices and passes are available through the TrainAway program.
