Les Invalides (formally Hôtel des Invalides) is a complex in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Probably it’s most famous for the tomb of Napoleon, but the building also houses museums related to the military history of France, as well as serving as a hospital and retirement home for war veterans.
The construction of Les Invalides was initiated by Louis XIV in 1670 and was finished in 1676. Nowadays visitors can explore the Musée de l’Armée (military museum of the Army of France), the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, the Musée de l’Ordre de la Libération and two churches: the Eglise du Dôme, which houses the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Eglise Saint-Louis des Invalides.
Once you visited the Invalides, there is plenty to explore nearby: just across the River Seine, you’ll find the Petit Palais and Grand Palais, the Champs-Elysées, the Tuileries Garden and the Louvre Museum. If you plan to stay on the same side of the river, the Eiffel Tower and the Musée d’Orsay (Orsay Museum).
You can easily find high quality gyms with a great selection of free weights, different work out zones and state of the art machines in every district of Paris as French people are very concerned with staying healthy. The 7th arrondissement and the area of the Invalides is no exception. Most of the centers also offer group classes, such as yoga and Pilates.
Travelers can easily find gyms offering day passes as membership models in Paris are becoming more flexible. However, travelers might experience some problems using English.
