Also known as Gobelins, the 13 arrondissement of Paris is a business and residential area that is not as popular among tourists as other parts of the city, but still offers a fair share of attractions for curious visitors. Until recently, it was neglected with old industrial buildings taking away a part of its charm, but they have now been repurposed as cultural and entertainment hubs. A good example of such transformation is City of Fashion, a conference and exhibition venue housed in a former concrete transit warehouse.
La Bibliothèque Nationale de France is also located in the district and offers an opportunity to see historic documents, including 5,000 Greek manuscripts. Art lovers will be amazed with the Manufacture des Gobelins, a four centuries old tapestry workshop that still restores and creates tapestries today. Finally, don’t miss a swim in the Piscine Joséphine Baker a modern swimming complex on Seine river, and Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir, a futuristic bridge with gorgeous designer elements.
