Narva is a city in the easternmost part of Estonia on the border of Russia. It is the third largest city in Estonia with a population of 57.130 people.
Narva is a very old city with lots of history. The first settlers in the city settled around 5th-4th millenium BC. Since these settlers, the city has been under rule from various nations, including Denmark, Estonia, Russia, and Sweden.
After re-gaining independence from the Soviet Union, various referendums were held by the existing Soviet government to determine whether the city should remain Soviet or become Estonian. The leaders insisted the population wanted Soviet rule despite 87% of the population resenting succession from Estonia. Since then, there have been conflicts to the identity of the city between Estonian and Russian governments until 2014, when a border treaty was signed by the two nations.
