The majority of Tallinn Old Town was built between the 13th and 16th centuries, and is considered to be the best preserved medieval neighborhood in Northern Europe. Recognizable for its cobbled alleys and Hanseatic architecture, it is a cherished UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular hub for both tourists and locals. In the heart of old town sits the iconic Town Hall Square where you can find the gothic Town Hall, but also many restaurants, cafes and street performers.
There are many intricate churches all around the old town, but the St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin are the most impressive sights for visitors. The two major museums in the city are the ones located in the Great Guild Hall and the Kiek in de Kök artillery tower, both showcasing the rich history of the city. For a more authentic view, visit one of the local restaurants, shops and gyms near Old Town, and join the exciting night scene in one of the many bars and clubs which can be found almost on every corner.
Although you can’t find great spots for fitness in Tallinn Old Town, the nearest gym is just a short walk away. One of the most popular gyms for travelers in this part of the city is MyFitness Viru, that found its home in a nearby shopping center. This modern gym with day pass access is particularly popular for its weight training areas, but it also offers a cardio park and spinning classes if you prefer aerobic workouts.
