Cerro San Cristóbal gives the wow-factor view of Santiago. At the summit are two swimming pools that offer escape to people to cool down and relax while still having the stunning view of the entire Santiago. To reach the summit there is a funicular on one side and a cable car on the other. This funicular is one of the historical infrastructures in Santiago having been built in 1925 and still functional to date. The 14-meter snow-white statue of the Virgin Mary towers atop the summit. Pope John Paul II held a mass at the benches on its feet in 1984.
Children can enjoy their time at the Gabriela Mistral playground which has wooden equipment and also a water fountain. This is a historical artwork opened 50 years ago and holds sentimental value to the Santiago community. Close to this playground is a botanical garden and a zoo with local and exotic species. This is the only place in Chile you will have a glimpse of condor and pudú, the smallest deer in the world. The funicular stops at the zoo on the way up. Cleary Cerro San Cristóbal is in any traveler’s and historian’s bucket list. There is a lot of history in it.
