Old Port (Vieux-Port)
The Old Port of Montreal, also called the Vieux-Port, dates back to the beginning of 17th century and is an important historical part of the Montreal. It is located in the Old District of Montreal and stretches over a 1.2 miles distance facing the Saint Lawrence River. The Old Port offers a great variety of attractions, sports and entertainment activities to the more than seven million visitors that every year visit the site. After intense investment from the Canadian government the Old Port was renewed in the beginning of the 1990s.
The Old Port features a range of both historical and modern monuments and buildings, including the Clock Tower and the Montréal Science Centre. The Clock Tower, which is also sometimes referred to as The Sailors’ Memorial Clock, was built from 1919 to 1922. It is a first world war memorial to the Canadian sailors who died during the war. Within 10 minutes’ walk you will find the Montréal Science Centre, which is hosting a number of interactive exhibitions.
