Stanley Park is a 405-hectare urban park in Vancouver. It is the largest park of the city and equally beloved by tourists and locals, attracting approximately 8 million visitors each year. Most of the park is forested as it was in the late 1800s and manmade structures such as the Vancouver Aquarium, the polar bear exhibit and miniature train (Stanley Park Train) were built between 1911 and 1937 or post-war. Perhaps the most important addition is the Vancouver Seawall, a stone wall which original purpose was to prevent the erosion of the park’s foreshore. The construction of it started in 1917 and took 60 years to complete. Today, this 8.8-kilometer path is the most popular walking, jogging and biking path of Stanley Park, connecting the park to downtown Vancouver. Altogether, visitors can explore 64 kilometers of trails, beaches, lakes, local wildlife, great eats, natural, cultural and historical landmarks, monuments and sculptures in the park.
The park is directly connected to the West End area of Vancouver, which is well-known for Robson Street, English Bay Beach and Sunset Beach. Downtown Vancouver is also nearby with its shopping centers, Canada Place and The Lookout at the Harbour Centre. The Lions Gate Bridge also connects Stanley Park with the North Shore municipalities and West Vancouver.
The number of gyms offering a wide variety of fitness facilities and classes and the number of signed up members in Vancouver are both increasing in recent years. Due to that, travelers can easily find gyms in Vancouver offering flexible entry solutions such as day passes or one-off workouts. With the TrainAway app you can search for and get access to such gyms without any hassle. Depending where you are headed from Stanley Park, check out Steve Nash Fitness World – Downtown Express in Downtown or Steve Nash Fitness World – North Shore after crossing the Lions Gate Bridge.
