Huaca Pucllana, Lima
In the middle of Miraflores district lies theHuaca Pucllana, an ancient adobe-and-clay pyramid built by the Lima culture in the 500 CE and served as a ceremonial temple and administrative center for surrounding irrigation zones for the cultures that existed before the Spanish arrival. The capital of Peru traces its origin here.
On a visit toHuaca Pucllana, you learn how the cultures here survived the arid desert for two centuries by building canals and redirecting water to be used for irrigation. There is a topographical map that shows the social-economical activities of the people who lived here. At the top of the pyramid, you get to have nice views of Miraflores. The Wari tomb is found at the top. The Wari culture overtook the Lima culture around 700 CE and the Huaca Pucllana was made the burial site for the nobles. Their tombs and mummies are still found here.
The Huaca has a tasteful illumination at night. The Huaca Pucllana on-site restaurant offers Peruvian Cuisine giving a visitor a unique dining experience taking in the 1500-plus-year-old view. The Huaca is accessed easily by visitors from Miraflores as most hotels are located nearby. Taxis and buses are available.
