Covering almost 130 acres next to Glenmore Reservoir in Calgary, Heritage Historical Village is one of the largest living history museums in North America. It first opened its doors in 1964 and showcases the history of Canada from the mid 19th to the mid 20th century. Most of the buildings you will see on site are original historical structures that were renovated and transported to the park. They are displayed in four different sections, which are Fur Trading Fort and First Nations Encampment from the 1860s, Pre-railway Settlement from the 1880s, Prairie Railway Town from the 1910s and the Heritage Town Square from the mid 20th century.
On the Heritage Town Square you can also see the Gasoline Alley Museum that showcases an intricate collection of oldtimers. Wherever you go in the park, you will see staff dressed in historic costumes who encourage visitors to take part in old school games and daily routines. There are also various events organized throughout the year such as romantic Once Upon A Christmas and spine-tingling ghost tours. Finally, you can eat in an authentic historic restaurant or shop at period-inspired shops.
