In the 1500s, Hamburg’s economy boomed and it became a trade center, tripled its population and began growing to the city we know today. That’s when the Neustadt was built. Since then, it grew into one of the most visited districts in the town. It’s especially famous for its shopping experience in the streets near Jungfernstieg and Gänsemarkt squares.
