Verdun is located in the southwestern part of Montreal next to the St. Lawrence River that connects the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean. To take advantage of the location next to the St. Lawrence River the borough council of Verdun has initiated the work of building an artificial beach. Besides bordering with the river to the east Verdun is also bordering with is the LaSalle borough to the south-west and the Le Sud-Ouest borough to the north-west.
One of the most characteristic areas of Verdun is the Nuns’ Island that is located in the St. Lawrence River. The Nuns’ Island is known for its affluent neighborhoods, which is very different from the classical neighborhood of Verdun.
If you are visiting Verdun, you should make a stop at the Maison Nivard-de Saint-dizier museum. It is located next to the St. Lawrence River and offers many great exhibits showcasing the rural architecture from the French regime.
Getting to Verdun from Downtown Montreal is easy and takes about 10 to 20 minutes with the green line Metro.
